An exchange-traded fund holding bitcoin directly, giving regulated exposure without the holder ever touching a key.
Spot products created an access route for capital that could not or would not self-custody. That was genuinely significant for flows.
They changed nothing about the protocol, the supply schedule or self-custody, and they introduced a consideration worth watching: a growing share of supply held by a small number of custodians on behalf of holders who never control a key.
Holding an ETF is not holding bitcoin. It is a regulated claim on a custodian who holds bitcoin.
